How to Get Your Candle Business Found on ChatGPT and AI Search
Sep 30, 2026Short answer: to get your candle business found on ChatGPT and other AI search tools, you need the same things that build a real brand online, a clear website that says exactly what you sell and where, honest reviews out in the world, and mentions of your name on pages other than your own. AI tools pull from all of that when someone asks them for a candle recommendation. You do not need to be a tech expert to do this, and I am not one either. A few small steps go a long way.
A question we are getting a lot lately is some version of "people are searching on ChatGPT now, how do I show up there?" It is a fair question, because it is really happening. We recently got a sale from someone who found us by asking an AI tool where to buy candles, and it is not a one time thing. More and more shoppers are typing "best soy candle brands" or "handmade candles near me" into ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google's AI answers instead of scrolling a page of blue links. I want our brands, and yours, to be in those answers.
How AI search actually finds candle brands
Here is the part that makes this less scary. AI tools do not have a secret candle directory. They are reading the public web, your website, your product pages, blog posts, reviews, directories, articles, and social profiles, and then summarizing what they find into an answer. So the work is not about gaming a robot. It is about making sure the web clearly and consistently says who you are, what you make, and who you serve. If a real person could Google you and understand your brand in ten seconds, an AI tool can too.
This is closely related to regular search, so if you have not yet, read our post on how to get your candle business found on Google first. The foundation is the same. AI search just rewards clarity and trust even more, because the tool has to decide what to say about you in one paragraph.
What we have done, and what you can do this week
I am still learning this myself, so I am sharing the small steps that have made a difference for Garsnett Beacon, not some perfect system. Any candle maker can do these.
Say exactly what you are, in plain words. Somewhere obvious on your homepage and your about page, spell it out: "Garsnett Beacon is a handmade soy candle company based in West Michigan." Include your product types, your city or region, and who your candles are for. AI tools quote language like this almost word for word. Vague taglines like "elevate your space" are pretty, but they tell a machine nothing.
Write real, specific product descriptions. The scent notes, the wax, the burn time, the vessel size, the mood. Detailed descriptions give AI tools something concrete to pull from when someone asks for "a candle that smells like fall." We break this down in our post on candle product descriptions that actually sell, and the same descriptions that convert shoppers also feed the AI answers.
Get reviews, everywhere. AI tools lean heavily on what other people say about you, not just what you say about yourself. Reviews on your site, on Google, on your shop platform, all of it becomes part of the picture. If you only do one thing this month, ask your happy customers for a review. Here is how we get candle reviews and testimonials without being annoying about it.
Get your name on pages you do not own. A local gift guide, a craft fair roundup, a podcast, a maker feature, a directory listing. Every place your brand name shows up in a helpful, real context is another signal that you exist and are worth recommending. This is also why press matters so much, and it overlaps a lot with our PR work.
Make your website easy to read and easy to trust. A clean site with your story, your contact info, shipping details, and clear product pages helps both people and AI understand you fast. Our guide to a high converting candle website covers the must haves.
How to check if you show up
This part is fun, and it is how I monitor our own brand. Open ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI answers and ask the kinds of questions your customers would ask. Try "best handmade candle brands in Michigan," or "where can I buy strong smelling soy candles online," or just search your own brand name and see what the AI says about you. Do it once a month and write down what you see. If the AI describes you wrong, or does not mention you at all, that tells you exactly what to fix on your site and where to get more mentions. If it describes you well, great, keep feeding it good, consistent information.
One honest note: none of this is instant, and none of it replaces the basics. This is a new channel stacked on top of a real brand, not a shortcut around building one. If you are still setting up the foundations, our how to start a candle business guide walks through the whole thing, and our free 10 step guide is a good place to start.
Common questions
Do I need to do anything special just for ChatGPT?
Not really. There is no button to submit your candle business to ChatGPT. You make the public web clear and trustworthy, and the AI tools read it. The same work that helps you on Google helps you here.
Will AI search replace my Google traffic?
Not overnight, and probably not completely. Plenty of people still search the normal way. Think of AI search as one more doorway into your shop, not a replacement for the others. We would not drop everything to chase it, but we would not ignore it either.
I am a brand new maker. Is this worth my time yet?
Do the basics first: a clear website, real product descriptions, and a handful of honest reviews. Those help you everywhere, including AI search, so you are not doing extra work. The visibility follows the fundamentals.
That is where we are with it, and I will keep sharing what we learn as it changes, because this is moving fast. If you want to keep up with us, come hang out in our free Facebook group, subscribe on YouTube, and take a peek at how we describe our own candles over at the Garsnett Beacon store. Small steps, friends. They add up.
